thesis-notes

This is a living document describing a research proposal regarding the realization of a decentralized music platform with crowdfunding and collective fund management capabilities i.e. a crowdfund music DAO.

Due to advances in technology in the music industry intermediaries are increasingly becoming more monopolistic in nature. This leads to problems for end-users; suffering from a wide array of problems such as:

  • Streaming platforms taking large cuts of revenue splits
  • Streaming platforms censoring music
  • Streaming platforms' platform lock-in
  • Record labels forcing unfair deals on new artists (forcing them to give up their distribution rights etc.)

The aim is to disintermediate and remove all relevant intermediaries in the music industry, namely streaming platforms, record labels, crowdfunding platforms and distributor in a decentralized manner with a zero-server technology stack of Delft University. This solution will be represented as a decentralized autonomous organization (DAO) with crowdfunding capabilities for the music industry.
